Your roof is one of your home’s first lines of defense against the elements and as such, it’s highly recommended that you take proper care of it.
However, when it comes to taking care of your roof, there are a few do’s and don’ts that you need to keep in mind to ensure that you don’t accidentally damage it in the process.
Do: Trim Your Trees
Trees are a good thing to have in your property as it improves your landscape and by extension, your home’s overall curb appeal. However, their branches can also become overgrown and failure to keep an eye on them may cause them to snap and fall on your roof. With that in mind, make sure to have your trees trimmed to help keep debris away from your roof and allow ample amounts of sunlight through to prevent the growth of organisms.
Do: Clean Your Gutters
Keep your gutters and downspouts clean and free of debris as much as possible as failure to do so can easily cause them to clog during rainy days, which in turn increases the risk of moisture damage around your home. By keeping your gutters free of blockages, you can help protect your roof and foundation from moisture damage.
Don’t: Use Harsh Chemicals
When you’re cleaning your roof, avoid shortcuts in cleaning by using bleach on the system. This is because not only can it kill the plants near your home but it can also corrode the metal parts of your roof in the process, causing it to deteriorate earlier than expected and leaving your home vulnerable to leaks. Instead, use eco-friendly solutions to clean and cure your sick roof.
