How to clean a double hung window.

Double hung windows open at the top and bottom. The newer double suspension models are designed to facilitate cleaning of both sides from inside your home. For this reason, they are a very popular option when choosing windows. We are here to help you make your windows look beautiful.

Steps to clean double hung windows:

Unlock your windows completely by moving the lower leaf latches inwards.

Lift the lower girdle six to eight inches.

Locate the tilt hatches in the lower window frame and pull in, as if the hatches were joined in the middle.

Slowly tilt the window into the house. The window should be almost flat at a 90 degree angle; however, be sure not to tilt the window too much. Complete this step slowly to avoid damaging the window.

Slide the top sheet down six to eight inches.

Locate the tilt hatches in the upper window frame and pull in, as if the hatches were joined in the middle.

Slowly tilt the window into the house. The window should be almost flat at a 90 degree angle; however, be sure not to tilt the window too much. Complete this step slowly so as not to cause damage.

Start with the top sheet and clean the inside of the window first.

Slide the top sheet back into the frame and clean the outside of the window.

Clean the bottom sheet, starting with the inside of the window.

Put the bottom sheet back in place and clean the outside of the window.

Replace the band in the frame.

Replace the band on the elevator rail to close the window. Be sure not to close the window from the top, as your window may be damaged as a result.

The best window cleaning supplies

Use standard window cleaners, such as Windex, to clean window panes. To clean the window frame, we recommend using magic drafts for vinyl windows and dust cloths and wood polish for your wooden windows.
